Interested in Summer Camp? Well don’t miss the boat – for some camps registration time is now!
Wait…wasn’t it just Christmas? We know, we feel it too, yet summer break will be here before you know it. It’s never too early to prepare for a fun summer and our area has plenty of great summer camp options to choose from. For some of the smaller local day camps and sports camps you have plenty of time to plan as many have just begun to release their summer schedule – yet camps such as the popular T Bar M will actually fill up before we even welcome Spring. Here is a list of local camps as well as camps popular with the locals that are within an hour drive.
Hermann & Sons:
Perhaps the longest standing tradition for boys and girls growing up in the Bulverde/Spring Branch community is going to the Hill Country Hermann & Sons Summer Camp. The separate Riverside location for girls and Hilltop site for boys, allows all children ages 9-13 a week full of fun and activities found in your traditional sleep-away camp.
Registration is quick and easy however, if your child is not a policyholder for Hill Country Hermann & Sons life insurance you must contact an agent and sign up for a life insurance policy on the child’s behalf and that can take time. You will then pay low annual dues on top of the camp fee.
Full-week session is $275
Half-week session is $180
Session 1 begins early June with sessions running each week until early August. Each session begin on Sunday afternoon, concluding the following Saturday morning.
T Bar M Camp:
This extremely popular Christian camp located less than an hour away on Hwy 46 in New Braunfels draws campers from many of the surrounding communities, including San Antonio and Houston. This completely modernized summer camp, has all the traditions you’d expect of summer camp as well as daily bible study and an online photo gallery where parents can see what the campers were up to every day.
Running weekly from June 5 through August 4, grades K through 4th with three select sessions available for 5th graders, camp fee is $280 and many sessions fill up as early as March.
Overnight Sports Camp
These overnight camps run weekly throughout the summer from May 28 through August 5 for grades 1 through 6. Cost ranges from $825-$1,025 depending on the week selected.
Many other opportunities are available at the T Bar M site, including Family Camps and opportunities for older teens and young adults who would like to be camp counselors. Visit the link above to see the full list of camper options.
Junior Deputy Academy Program:
The one-week program is open to boys and girls 9 to 11 years of age, the academy gives the children a chance to interact with Sheriffs Deputies and make friends with positive role models. Deputies from the various parts of the Sheriff’s Office will visit with the children and introduce them to the different functions they provide, some of which some are: Patrol, SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Honor Guard, Criminal Investigations, Crime Prevention, 911 Emergency Center, K-9, Narcotics Drug Awareness, along with the Fire Department and EMS, Air life, Public Utilities and many others. Implemented by the officers and staff of the Comal County Sheriff’s Office this is an effort on our part to investing in the future of the youth in Comal County.
